…or Kerry and Jane – it’s up to you.

New bike

without comments

After looking around and trying out several bikes over the last few months, I eventually bought a new bike today. I want to start cycling to work but never felt comfortable on my mountain bike and didn’t fancy trying to make it up the rather steep hills on the old three gear shopper I used to cycle to school on some 16 years ago! So, I made the decision to go for the bike I liked best in Thomas’s Cycle Revolution, as they were extremely helpful when I had been in previously and are only a little over half a mile from home. After trying just two more bikes, I bought this Giant Expression LX:

I really enjoyed riding it home, which rather sadly was probably my longest bike journey since I left sixth form in 1990. I’m now looking forward to building up my confidence on a bike again and getting fit cycling to work. I somehow doubt I’ll actually use all 24 gears, but I’m sure I’ll be needing quite a few in order to stop me running out of puff up those hills!

So that’s where they’ve been hiding the eggs

with one comment

We haven’t been getting many eggs lately, and none at all from Ginger (not unusual) or Ivy. Last time that happened, we eventually found a clutch of nine under a hedge, but I’ve been looking around in vain this time.

Until this afternoon, that is, when I looked a bit closer under a bush, and lo and behold:

Hidden eggs

I can’t help thinking there are some more still waiting to be found.

Daft chickens

There’s only so much value in an automatic door closer when you have to go out every night and lift three of them off the roof of their house and put them inside:

Blocked by BT

with one comment

For some bizarre reason, BT’s webscanner has decided that this site is all about “sex”:

BT Webscanner page

Sorry for any disappointment!

[Update] It’s now been reclassified as “message boards and clubs”, but is still blocked.

[Update 2] Although www.janeandkerry.com is blocked, blog.kerrybuckley.com (which it mirrors) isn’t. I think I’ve now got all the links sorted so that that hostname works, and doesn’t try to link back to www.janeandkerry.com anywhere.

Yet another new car!

without comments

After only eight months of ownership, I have now part-exchanged the Saxo for this lovely metallic blue Clio. I had been looking for one that I liked within the right price bracket since Easter, but my search is now over. Still getting used to the wonders of electric windows and central locking, but loving it so far!

Welcome to janeandkerry.com!

without comments

This is our new site, which uses WordPress instead of a home-grown concoction of perl scripts. In theory, that means it’ll be easier to maintain, which means it stands a better chance of being kept up-to-date! I’ve added a couple of retrospective posts that never made it to the old site, to get things going.

Most things can still be found on kerryandjane.com for now, but will at some point find their way over here (I’ll try and make this site look a bit more interesting too). Eventually both domains will point here.

New chickens

We’ve now added two more chickens to our menagerie – A light sussex hybrid called Ivy (on the right of the picture), and a bluebelle called (imaginatively) Bluebell.

New chicken house

with 3 comments

Having decided to get another couple of chickens, we obviously needed something a bit bigger than the Eglu for them to live in. We ended up buying a Lenham 503, which has room for up to six birds. The chickens aren’t confined to their run during the day any more, but have the run of the garden (which means you have to bribe them with food to be able to get cars in or out!), and we fitted an automatic door opener which opens at dawn and closes at dusk, so they can let themselves out if we don’t get up early.

A sensible family vehicle!

without comments

I decided that the time had come to have a practical 5-door family car that my parents and/or grandparents could get in and out of without any problem, as well as making it easier to get the cat boxes in the car for the annual trip to the vets and providing a sizeable boot for getting cuttings to the dump. I started looking for a Clio a few months ago, but failed to find anything that I liked and could afford, so I bought this little green Saxo with a really quite interesting (if that’s the right word!) interior. Every seatbelt is a different colour: green for the driver, blue for the front passenger and red or grey for the rear passengers; and the gear knob and doorlock buttons are bright yellow balls! Not my dream car, but it serves the purpose.

Saxo

I still have the Mini, which is there as my fun vehicle (and also provides an alternative source of transport for Kerry when all his cars are off the road!)
